On 10th June 2008, 38 child labourers found and picked up from silk looms, small restaurants, rice mills, brick kilns, pappad making units, auto repair shops in and around Kanchipuram were freed and sent to public schools to resume their education. At a brief function presided by the local MLA (Member of the Legislative assembly) Mrs. Sakthi Kamalambal, SAM paid the debts of 38 child workers and freed them. Educational aids were given to these 38 children. Assistance was also provided to another 121 students who had been freed from child labour in the past years to continue their studies.
